Delegation in Africa – rapid test solution for tropical diseases and beyond.

As part of the WIN.Africa initiative, organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and implemented by GIZ, we had the incredible opportunity to immerse ourselves in Nigeria’s dynamic business and innovation landscape.

Our goal was to gain deep insights into the diagnostic landscape and needs analysis in Nigeria. We explored existing structures, local dynamics, and how joint projects could drive impactful change.

Kai Wangeringel Represents Detechgene

Kai Wangeringel, on behalf of Detechgene, spent four weeks in Nigeria pushing the boundaries of our mobile testing technology. This stay provided countless impressions and valuable insights into Nigeria’s vibrant innovation ecosystem.

Inspiring Visits and Valuable Insights

During the trip, we visited numerous key institutions and companies:

  • Government Institutions: We met with representatives from the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). These meetings provided insights into Nigeria’s dynamic business environment and start-up culture.
  • Nigerian Startups: An inspiring exchange with Nigerian startup colleagues led to fruitful collaborations and potential joint projects.
  • BASF: Dr. Jean Marc Ricca shared BASF’s pioneering work on sustainability operations and food fortification efforts in remote areas to combat vitamin A deficiency.
  • Beiersdorf Nigeria: We witnessed regional innovation at Beiersdorf’s production facilities and learned about product adaptations for the Nigerian market.
  • Nigerian Consulate: An invitation from Commissioner Olatubosun Alake enabled us to meet diplomats and discuss the potential of the Nigerian market, leading to enriching exchanges and new collaboration opportunities.

A Month of Unforgettable Experiences

The delegation, part of the WIN.NRW Africa program, was organized by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria (AHK Nigeria). Special thanks go to all delegation participants, whose collaboration made the trip an unforgettable adventure:

The trip provided a one-of-a-kind look at the Nigerian market, equipping us with valuable know-how and contacts to explore market entry opportunities in Africa. We are deeply grateful for the generous support and guidance of Oyeniyi Immanuel and Augusta, who facilitated essential processes and connections.

This journey was both a business and personal highlight, offering insights into the possibilities and challenges of working in new markets. We eagerly anticipate the development of the planned collaborations and projects, and we look forward to Detechgene’s next chapter in Africa.

The exchange also made waves in both German and Nigerian press. For more insights, we recommend reading the following articles:
