North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) is increasingly developing into a hotspot for medical innovations and a leader in the development of state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic methods. During her tour through Düsseldorf, Bonn, and Cologne, Minister Mona Neubaur visited numerous start-ups to highlight the state's innovative strength. Among them was the Cologne-based company Detechgene, which is committed to democratizing laboratory diagnostics. Together, they discussed concepts and applications to strengthen the population and healthcare system in NRW and beyond.
Minister Neubaur emphasized the importance of cooperation and creativity:
“Modern medical technology can save lives and improve the care of millions of people—and it is a true future field for North Rhine-Westphalia. In addition to large, internationally operating companies in the fields of pharmaceuticals, medical technology, and biotechnology, numerous start-ups and medium-sized companies are driving the development of new products and therapies with innovative spirit and research excellence. North Rhine-Westphalia can build on these strengths, and we must continue to promote them!”
The recipe for the state's strong position in the healthcare industry lies in the close collaboration between research and business, as well as in a vibrant start-up scene that brings innovative products to market with smart ideas.
“With its strong research, top-tier companies, and a vibrant start-up scene, North Rhine-Westphalia plays a leading role in medical technology and biotechnology,”
Neubaur continued. The state government is actively working to ensure that smart ideas find their way into practice more quickly—with the goal of improving healthcare and creating new economic opportunities.
Thanks to the interplay of research excellence and an innovative business culture, NRW is optimally positioned to continue serving as a driver of medical innovation and to further expand a strong growth industry. With the support of the state government and the commitment of the start-up scene, NRW remains a dynamic location for future medicine—for the benefit of patients and to strengthen the regional economy.
